Introduction to NCET 2023 and ITEP
NCET 2023 is a national-level entrance test conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) in various institutions across India. ITEP is a 4-year dual-major undergraduate degree program that prepares teachers for the four stages of the new school structure: Foundational, Preparatory, Middle, and Secondary (5+3+3+4). The program is an initiative of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
ITEP Program Details
ITEP is a 4-year undergraduate dual-major degree program offered in B.A. B.Ed/ B.Sc. B.Ed,/ B.Com. B.Ed. The program will be available in reputed Central/ State Government Universities, IITs, NITs, RIEs, and Government Colleges starting from the academic session 2023-24.
Key Highlights of ITEP
- ITEP Admission is available to students who choose teaching as a profession after completing their secondary education.
- The program follows a 5+3+3+4 pattern as recommended in the NEP 2020, enabling teachers to teach at different stages of the school education system.
- ITEP includes cutting-edge pedagogy, grounding in early childhood care and education (ECCE), foundation literacy (FLN), subject specialized content, toy pedagogy, inclusive education, and knowledge of India and its values/ethos/art/traditions.
- By 2030, ITEP will become the minimal degree qualification for school teachers and will be offered by multidisciplinary institutions.
NCET Eligibility Criteria 2023
- Candidates must be Indian citizens.
- Those who have passed the class 12 /equivalent examination with at least 50 percent marks or are appearing in 2023, irrespective of their age, can apply for NCET 2023.
- There is no upper age limit for appearing in the examination, but candidates must fulfill the age criteria (if any) of the University / Institution / Government College to which they are seeking admission.
NCET Syllabus & Pattern 2023
The NCET Syllabus & Question Pattern 2023, released by NCTE, covers the following sections:
- Section 1 - 2 Languages (20*2 = 40 questions)
- Section 2 - 3 Domain-Specific Subjects (25*3 = 75 questions)
- Section 3 - General Test is compulsory (25 questions)
- Section 4 - Teaching Aptitude is Compulsory (20 questions)
NCET Exam Pattern 2023
- The exam will be conducted online as a Computer Based Test (CBT).
- There will be 160 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) to be completed within 3 hours.
MARKING SCHEME OF EXAMINATION
For Multiple Choice Questions: To answer a question, the candidates need to choose one option corresponding to the correct answer or the most appropriate answer. However, if any anomaly or discrepancy is found after the process of challenges of the key verification, it shall be addressed in the following manner:
i. Correct answer or the most appropriate answer: Four marks (+4)
ii. Any incorrect option marked will be given minus one mark (-1).
iii. Unanswered/Marked for Review will be given no mark (0).
iv. If more than one option is found to be correct then Four marks (+4) will be awarded to only
v. those who have marked any of the correct options.
NCET Registration 2023
The NCET Registration 2023 will take place online through the official website of NTA, ncet.samarth.ac.in. Candidates need to fill in personal details, educational qualifications, upload required documents like photograph and signature, and pay the registration fee through online mode.
